Stamps from United Stated of America

 

Sorry I'm not updated this blog for the long period. I thought there are no visitors who are interested in visiting this blog. I'm surprised how this blog has been visited more or less a total of 70 visitors. Not from Malaysia but also from Canada, Czech and the United Stated of America. This makes me excited to add new information in it 

I was checking my grandfather old stamp book, one page that interests me is the United State of America. There are 3 pages for the USA. But I only had time to check this page only. Sorry to all visitors. But I promised an interesting story for this will be explored.

These are several stamps that i'm interested to share my story with you. I'm not sure why, but lets check its story.

 1c Statue of Liberty, National Defense Issues 1940

Issue Date: October 16, 1940
City: Washington, D.C.
Quantity: 6,081,409,300
Color: Bright blue green

This stamps was the first in a 3-stamp series issued to raise consciousness of the need for a strong national defense, which President Franklin Roosevelt considered especially important as World War II raged in Europe. The stamp pictures the Statue of Liberty that was placed on top of fort built to defend New York against naval attacks.

The Liberty Series

Issued to replace the 1938 Presidential series, this patriotic set of stamps honors guardians of freedom throughout U.S. history. Eighteenth century America is represented by Revolutionary War heroes and statesmen such as Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Jay, and Revere.

Leaders of the 19th century including Monroe, Lincoln, Lee, Harrison, and Susan B. Anthony make an appearance. The 20th century is represented by Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and General Pershing.

The Liberty Series also features famous locations important to America’s democratic history, such as Bunker Hill, Independence Hall, and the Alamo.

25¢ Paul Revere (Liberty Series )

Paul Revere (1735-1818)
American Patriot and Silversmith

Born in Boston, Paul Revere was a leader in the patriot group known as The Sons of Liberty, whose members participated in the Boston Tea Party. History remembers Revere for his ride from Charlestown to Lexington and then on to Concord on April 18, 1775, to warn the local militia that the British were coming. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow memorializes this ride in the poem, “Paul Revere’s Ride.” 

Revere was also an outstanding silversmith (his graceful designs are still copied today), an engraver, and the first American to discover how to roll sheet copper.

This stamp was first issued in Mandan, North Dakota – the site of Fort Abraham Lincoln. The fort was built in June 1872, and named after Lincoln in November of the same year. It was the last post of George Armstrong Custer and his wife Libby, who were stationed there in 1873. President Theodore Roosevelt approved legislation in 1907 that turned the fort into a state park.

20¢ Babe Ruth

Issued in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of baseball's All-Star Game, this stamp honors Babe Ruth. A baseball legend, Ruth played in the first All-Star Game, in 1933.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth (1895-1948)

Babe Ruth was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He excelled as both a pitcher and a hitter; however, it was as a batter that he achieved his greatest fame. His records include 2,056 career bases on balls and 72 games where he hit two or more home runs. His lifetime batting average was .342. Ruth attracted so many fans to Yankee Stadium, which opened in 1923, that it was nicknamed “The House That Ruth Built.”
